Small-school stars top Huntsville area Player of the Week list
Small-school standouts showed up big last week in high school basketball action across the Huntsville/Tennessee Valley region. The player of the week plays for a Class 2A squad and the No. 2 choice is a Class 4A star.
A couple of 7A players and one from Class 6A complete the list.
Here are the top 5 with statistics through Jan. 9, based on information provided by coaches or scorekeepers:
5. TJ Cole, Grissom. The junior forward pitched in 20 points in the Tigers 60-51 loss at his former school on Friday. Cole, who transferred from Huntsville this season, hit five 3-pointers in the game played in front of the largest crowd to ever see a game at Huntsville High.
4. Limaya Batimba, Lee-Huntsville. The surprising thing about the senior guard’s week is that she only had two double-doubles in three games. Lee rolled to three wins with Batimba scoring 57 points. She scored 22 and grabbed 14 rebounds in a 58-22 win over Munroe, Fla., and 23 with 14 boards in an 85-66 win over San Jose Prep, Fla.
