Sleeping 2-year-old shot in the face in Prichard: Search for suspect underway
A 2-year-old child was shot in the face while lying in bed alongside their parents early Wednesday in Prichard.
The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office is reporting that the shooting occurred at 1:02 a.m. in the 3400 block of St. Stephens Road.
The child was taken to a hospital.
The mayor of Prichard said the child is in stable condition.
“This incident is part of a disturbing pattern of violence that continues to affect our communities far too often,” Mayor Jimmie Gardner posted on social media.
“Let me be clear: when the perpetrator is found, they must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”
The Sheriff Office’s Major Crimes detectives have interviewed the parents and other witnesses, but there have been no arrests made.
“I am angry—and we all should be,” Gardner posted.
“We must come together as a community to demand better and to work tirelessly to make our homes and streets safer for every child and every family.”
