Slade Bolden earns NFL contract after weekend tryout

Slade Bolden attended the Atlanta Falcons’ rookie minicamp this weekend as a tryout player and earned a contract with the NFL team.

The Falcons signed the former Alabama wide receiver after the workouts, which will allow Bolden to join the NFL team’s offseason program as Atlanta prepares for training camp and the 2023 season.

Bolden posted a photo of the contract signing on his Instagram account on Sunday afternoon, along with the notation: “God is good! Let’s go to work @atlantafalcons. #RiseUp.”

After a redshirt season in 2018, Bolden caught 68 passes for 712 yards and four touchdowns over the next three years at Alabama. In 2021, Bolden had 42 receptions for 408 yards and three touchdowns.

Bolden participated in the 2022 NFL Scouting Combine, but he was not selected during the 2022 NFL Draft.

Bolden signed with the Baltimore Ravens on May 6, 2022, but he was placed on injured reserve on Aug. 24 after missing the team’s first two preseason games. Reports indicated a hernia had sidelined Bolden.

On Oct. 18, Baltimore waived Bolden from injured reserve, and he’s been a free agent since then.

The Falcons return their top wide receiver from 2022, when rookie Drake London caught 72 passes for 866 yards and four touchdowns. But no other wide receiver on the roster caught more than 13 passes for Atlanta last season.

The Falcons now have 13 wide receivers on their roster, including Mack Hollins, who had 57 receptions for 690 yards and four touchdowns for the Las Vegas Raiders last season.
