Skull found in Anniston ID’d as woman missing since 2022; death ruled a homicide

Human remains found in Anniston earlier this year have been identified as a missing woman, and authorities say she was the victim of a homicide.

Miya Marshall, 36, was reported missing to Anniston police on Sept. 8, 2022.

Marshall’s family last spoke to her, on July 30, 2022. Marshall’s family members told investigators that it was unusual to not hear from her for such an extended period of time.

On May 15, about 4:45 p.m., investigators were called to the 2600 block of Noble Street on a report of the discovery of a human skull. No other bones were found.

Anniston police on Monday identified those remains as Marshall.

Capt. Matt Caballero said an autopsy performed by the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences determined she had been killed. The cause of her death has not been released.
