An investigation is ongoing after skeletal remains were found in western Birmingham.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office said the remains were discovered in a clandestine grave behind a residence in the 1400 block of Brighton Road.

The discovery was made at 5:20 p.m. Monday.

An examination by medical examiners will be performed today to begin the process of positively identifying the remains and determining the cause and manner of death.

No additional details have been released.
