Six Flags shooting: Teen shot by officer in firefight near Georgia park

Gunfire and fighting near Six Flags Over Georgia during the park’s opening day resulted in an officer-involved shooting that left a 15-year-old hospitalized, Atlanta-based WANF reports.

Cobb County police officers responded to the park entrance where hundreds of people were engaged in multiple fights.

Police said “an unknown number of suspects” fired at the officers, as police followed them onto Six Flags Parkway. Police said one person was hit when officers returned fire. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports the person, a 15-year-old boy, is in “critical condition.”

Six Flags told WANF the shooting happened on nearby South Service Road, which is neither owned nor operated by the park.

“It is incredibly disappointing that our community is disrupted at public events throughout the region by groups of underaged youth,” Six Flags Over Georgia management said in a statement to WANF.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is probing the incident.
