Sick of storms? The Birmingham weather service is right there with you
Raise your hand if you are sick of seeing the word “storms” in your local weather forecast.
You aren’t the only one. Even the National Weather Service is feeling storm fatigue.
Alabama has been in a stormy pattern, to say the least. There has been a risk for severe weather in some part of the state every day since Sunday.
The streak is set to continue through at least this coming Sunday, with a Level 1 or Level 2 (out of 5) severe weather risk in the forecast each day.
But don’t despair. There are drier days ahead in the forecast, the weather service said. At some point.
Forecasters took to social media on Thursday to empathize with those who have just had enough of the “s” word.
Here’s what they said:
The unsettled weather may stick around into next week, but no severe weather is in the forecast past Sunday — so far.
At least the wetter pattern will keep June temperatures in check. The weather service’s temperature forecast keeps highs in the 80s and low 90s across Alabama through mid-week. And that’s while spots to the west in Texas and Louisiana will be baking with triple digits in the forecast.
What does the long-range outlook hold when it comes to rain?
The Climate Prediction Center’s six- to 10-day precipitation outlook shows Alabama has a slightly higher probability of seeing above-average rainfall from June 21-15.
