Shots fired at witness as Hoover carjacking police chase ends in crash
A Birmingham man is jailed in a Hoover armed carjacking after allegedly firing a shot at a witness and then leading police on a chase through multiple cities.
Corey Lamont Glover, 26, is charged with two counts of first-degree robbery, attempted murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle and attempting to elude.
The investigation began about 4:30 p.m. Sunday when Hoover police were dispatched to Lorna Place Apartments on Treeline Court on a report of an armed robber.
A man there told officers he was held at gunpoint while the suspect – now identified as Glover – tried to steal his wallet.
Lt. Daniel Lowe said several witnesses saw what was going on and chased Glover to the nearby Place at Galleria apartments.
It was at the second location, Lowe said, that Glover carjacked a woman and began to flee in the stolen vehicle.
As Glover was leaving, police said, fired a round at one of the witnesses who had tried to follow him. The bullet struck the vehicle, but the witness was not injured.
Officers quickly saturated the area and spotted Glover.
A chase ensued on I-65 northbound, ending on Oxmoor Road when the suspect crashed. He tried to run away from the wrecked vehicle but was taken into custody.
Glover will be held without bond in the Jefferson County Jail.
