Shot fired inside Dawson Memorial Baptist Church rec center during argument over basketball game
A gunshot was fired during an apparent argument inside a Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood Thursday morning.
Police were dispatched at 9:39 a.m. to the church’s recreation center on Oxmoor Road on a report of shots fired.
Sgt. John Carr said they learned the suspect, who has not been identified, fired one shot inside the rec center and left in a vehicle.
It appears the shooting stemmed from an argument over a basketball game.
No one was injured.
Edgewood Elementary School and Homewood Middle School went into a secured perimeter status, which means classes continued but the students and staff could no go outside.
Carr said police determined the suspect is no longer in the area and there is no threat to the public.
