Shoplifting trial for Huntsville councilman Devyn Keith is delayed

A judge on Tuesday granted a request to postpone the shoplifting trial for Huntsville city councilman Devyn Keith.

Madison County District Judge Patty Demos agreed to the continuance after Keith’s lawyer, John Taylor, said he experienced technical issues in reviewing video of the incidents prosecutors say involve Keith that led to his arrests in February.

No new trial date was immediately scheduled.

Keith was scheduled for trial Wednesday before Taylor filed the motion late Monday afternoon asking for the delay. Taylor said in his motion that his computer would not play video provided by prosecutors in the discovery process of the incident involving his client.

Prosecutors did not object to a delay in the case, Taylor said in the motion.

Keith has pleaded not guilty to the four misdemeanor charges he is facing connecting with merchandise police say he took from Huntsville Walmarts.
