Shooting in Hueytown sends 2 to hospital; 1 victim found in vehicle on Birmingham interstate

An investigation is underway after a shooting in Hueytown Wednesday night.

Police received a call from a passerby about 7:40 p.m. about shots fired in the area of Knight Avenue and Red Farmer Driver. Hueytown 911 then got another call of a person shot on Knight Avenue.

Officers and fire medics found a male shot in the hand. He was taken to UAB Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A short time later, a state trooper located the vehicle in which the victim had been on Interstate 59 northbound near 20th Street Ensley.

The female driver was also injured and taken by Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service to UAB Hospital. It wasn’t immediately clear if she was shot, or injured in some other way. Her injury, police said, happened during the initial incident in Hueytown.

Police said they believe the victims were targeted.
