Shelby Lynne sets release date for first Nashville album since 1995
Shelby Lynne and her new label have announced a release date for Lynne’s forthcoming album. Fans won’t have to wait long, and to tide them over they get a new single on Friday, June 21.
The album, “Consequences of the Crown,” will be released Aug. 16. It will be Lynne’s first release since moving back to Nashville after 25 years on the West Coast and signing with Monument Records in a deal that involves Karen Fairchild of Little Big Down as a manager and producer. According to Monument, the new album is produced by Lynne, Fairchild, Monroe and Gena Johnson.
Lynne, who grew up in the Mobile area and who is sister to songwriter Allison Moorer, courted country success with a series of albums from the late ‘80s into the mid-’90s. Her breakthrough came when she moved to California and switched to soulful pop, winning a Grammy for Best New Artist with 2000′s “I Am Shelby Lynne.” She’s explored a wide range of musical territory, including roots-rock and stripped-down singer-songwriter material, on subsequent albums, released on a variety of labels including her own Everso brand.
“I am going where it feels right to take a step,” Lynne said in a Monument release. “Breathing. Feeling the power of this music I lived for a time, another chapter in my life. I am grateful to be alive. I am grateful to you for listening to my life. This is the moment. We all wear a crown of consequences.”
Lynne and Monument have previously released two tracks from the new album, “But I Ain’t” and “Over and Over.” A third, “Butterfly,” will be released on June 21.
According to information from Monument, Lynne is slated to perform Sept. 26 at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. The show will feature new music as well as a performance of “I Am Shelby Lynne” in its entirety.
