Shelby County Republicans dominate local races in Alabama
Republicans held off Democratic challengers in Shelby County Commission races Tuesday.
There were six contested races, five of which featured Democrats running against Republican incumbents. The sixth contested race features a Democrat and Republican running for a seat currently held by a Republican.
According to the Secretary of State’s office, 70% of county voters voted for former President Donald Trump to regain the White House.
With more than 97% of votes in late Tuesday night, unofficial results show:
In District 3, Republican incumbent Jon Parker led Democratic challenger Bobby Pierson, 63% to 37%, 6,085 to 3,468 votes.
In District 4, Republican incumbent Ward Williams defeated Democratic challenger Phil Kirk, 65% to 35%, 6,238 to 3,371 votes.
In District 5, Republican incumbent Elwyn Bearden led Democratic challenger Leslie Tyus, 70% to 30%, 9,316 to 3,985 votes.
In District 6, there was no incumbent, due to redistricting. Republican Josh Sisk led Democrat Anondo Banerjee, 70% to 30%, 8,760 to 3,891 votes.
In District 7, Republican incumbent Lindsey Allison led Democrat Marsha Sturdevant, 76% to 24%, 9,587 to 3,027 votes.
In District 8, Republican incumbent Rick Shepherd led Democratic challenger Jenice Prather-Kinsey, 79% to 21%, 10,040 to 2,846 votes.
In the race for District Judge, Place 2, Republican Casey Duncan was holding onto his seat against Democratic challenger Ashley N. Bell, 70% to 30%, 74,987 to 31,398 votes.
Jiji Davis, Republican candidate for Shelby County Board of Education, also is leading opponent Julia Craig in unofficial results Tuesday night.
