Shelby County man IDâd as motorist killed in fiery weekend crash on I-65 in Hoover
Authorities have released the name of a man killed in a fiery crash on Interstate 65 in Hoover over the weekend.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday identified the fatality victim as Ignacio Enrique Rios Montoya. He was 36 and lived in Maylene.
Police received a 911 call at 4:20 a.m. Saturday on a report of a two-vehicle wreck on I-65 just before the Interstate 459 interchange, said Capt. Keith Czeskleba.
Officers arrived to find a 2019 Chevrolet Camaro and a 1970s model Ford Maverick both fully engulfed in flames.
Montoya – the driver of the Maverick – was trapped inside the burning vehicle and was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:31 a.m.
Czeskleba said the driver of the Camaro sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
Although the investigation is in its early stages, he said, it appears the Maverick was traveling at a very low rate of speed or was stopped on the interstate when it was struck in the rear by the Camaro.
Hoover police are investigating.
