Shawn Murphy becomes the latest Alabama transfer to pick Florida State
Another former Alabama football player is packing his bags and booking a trip from Tuscaloosa to Tallahassee, Florida.
Shawn Murphy, a linebacker, committed to Mike Norvell and Florida State following the retirement of Nick Saban and the appointment of Kalen DeBoer. Murphy entered the transfer portal on Jan. 13, a few hours after DeBoer’s introductory press conference.
A&P Agency confirmed Murphy’s decision to 247Sports on Monday night.
Four other ex-Tide members picked the Seminoles, including wideout Malik Benson, guard Terrence Ferguson, running back Roydell Williams and defensive back Earl Little II. FSU had coach Mike Norvell was among the reported contenders to replace Saban, eventually agreeing to an eight-year extension.
“Our guys want to know. Every hour that goes by is agonizing to them,” DeBoer said when meeting with reporters. ” … First and foremost the recruiting needs to happen within this team and getting them to buy in.”
Murphy, a former four-star prospect from Virginia, produced five tackles in 18 career games at UA. Second-year player Jihaad Campbell has tweeted his plans to return to the program for at least one more year. Starting middle linebacker Deontae Lawson has also announced the same.
