Severe weather threatens Alabama Sunday and Monday: What to know about late night storm risk

Severe weather remains a possibility for all of Alabama on Sunday and Monday, according to forecasters.

Tornadoes, damaging winds, hail and heavy rain all look to be possible both days.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is maintaining a Level 3 out of 5, or enhanced, risk for the northwest corner of the state for Sunday. The rest of the state will have a Level 2 (slight) or Level 1 (marginal) risk on Sunday.

Sunday’s storms aren’t expected to reach north and west Alabama until late on Sunday — as late as 10 p.m. to midnight.

The National Weather Service urged Alabamians to make sure they have a reliable way of getting severe weather warnings that can wake them up if needed. Some of those are a weather radio or smartphone apps.

Storms will continue to move across the state into the day on Monday, and the Storm Prediction Center has a Level 2 out of 5 risk for nearly the entire state on Monday.

Storms on Sunday could reach north and west Alabama from anywhere from 10 p.m. until midnight and track eastward and southward through the overnight hours and into the day on Monday.

If that wasn’t enough there could be another risk for some severe weather on Wednesday in northwest Alabama, and the Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 2 risk there:
