Severe weather threat dropped for Wednesday in Alabama

The threat for severe weather has been taken off the table for Alabama on Wednesday.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has removed the severe weather risk for the entire state for Wednesday, and there are no other threats for severe weather for the upcoming week, either.

There will be rain on Wednesday, and some storms as well, but severe weather is now not anticipated.

Forecasters at the National Weather Service offices in Alabama had always been dubious about the prospect of severe weather, saying that the best environment for storms would be located north of the state.

And the Storm Prediction Center joined them in that line of thinking over the weekend, first shifting the severe weather threat farther north in Alabama and then dropping it entirely.

Rain will be possible across north Alabama tonight into the overnight hours, but no severe weather is expected.

Then the weather service expects showers to move across Alabama during the day on Wednesday along with a cold front, but rainfall amounts aren’t expected to add up to much — about a quarter-inch or less.

Colder air will follow the front on Thursday.

Rain chances are expected to increase again later on Thursday and last into Friday, and possibly the weekend too, according to forecasters. However, no severe weather is expected.
