Severe weather risk dropped for Alabama on Thursday

Alabama may not have to deal with strong storms on Thursday after all.

NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has dropped a Level 1 risk for severe weather for the southeast corner of the state, instead confining it to part of the Florida Panhandle.

The National Weather Service said that instability levels aren’t expected to be high enough to support severe storms in Alabama — although a strong storm can’t be ruled out later this afternoon in south Alabama.

Strong storms are not expected for the rest of Alabama, either.

But it will be a rainy day for much of the state, according to forecasters.

Rain is expected to work its way across the state today, and some spots could get an inch or more.
