Severe weather possible in Alabama next week: Will the start of spring bring tornadoes?
Next week will include the first days of meteorological spring, and right on schedule there will be a chance for severe weather in Alabama.
The National Weather Service said damaging winds and tornadoes will be possible with a line of storms expected to move across the state from Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.
That means it’s time to make sure you have a reliable way to get severe weather warnings that could wake you if needed.
The severe weather outlook from NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center, which covers Tuesday night and until 6 a.m. Wednesday, includes a Level 2 out of 5 (slight) risk for areas in north and west Alabama, including Huntsville, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa (see the outlook for Tuesday at the top of this post).
The severe weather outlook for Wednesday, shown below, does not show a severe weather risk for the rest of the state during the day on Wednesday:

However, that could change in future updates, the next of which won’t come until later tonight.
Also, the National Weather Service in Birmingham is including all of central Alabama in a risk for severe weather on Tuesday into Wednesday:
Forecasters urged people across Alabama to keep up with the forecast over the weekend and into next week so they will be up to date on any potential changes to the risk area and timing.
March begins on Saturday, and the next three months typically are some of the busiest when it comes to severe weather and tornadoes in Alabama:
