Severe storms possible Saturday: Here’s when and where
A few severe thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday in the southern half of Alabama.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center has expanded a Level 1 out of 5 (marginal) risk for severe weather to include most of south Alabama, except for the coast, and the southern part of central Alabama for Saturday (shown in the map at the top of this post).
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible. The SPC thinks that the strongest of those could have damaging wind gusts, which could take down trees and power lines, as well as frequent lightning and heavy rain.
Rain and storms will be possible throughout the day on Saturday, according to the National Weather Service, but the most likely time for storms will be this afternoon and evening.
The expected rain will help keep temperatures in check, and for a welcome change there are no heat advisories in effect for any part of Alabama as of Saturday morning.
Highs today will range from the lower 80s in northeast Alabama to the lower 90s in south Alabama.
