Severe storms possible in Alabama on Thursday: What to expect
A low-end risk for severe weather has been added to the forecast for parts of Alabama on Thursday.
And Friday could bring another round of storms.
Tornadoes aren’t expected with Thursday’s storms, but they could generate wind gusts as high as 60 mph and hail, according to the National Weather Service.
NOAA’s Storm Prediction Center is forecasting a Level 1 out of 5 (marginal) risk for severe weather for parts of north and west Alabama on Thursday — primarily Thursday afternoon and evening.
A Level 1 risk means that isolated severe storms will be possible.
Severe weather isn’t expected for the rest of the state on Thursday.
It’s not in the Storm Prediction Center’s forecast, yet, but the weather service added that a risk for more strong to severe storms may materialize on Friday for more of Alabama as a cold front approaches the area.
Forecasters were thinking another Level 1 risk may be added to the forecast.
The rain is expected to clear out of the state over the weekend, and slightly cooler temperatures are expected on Saturday and Sunday, according to the weather service.
Some areas in north Alabama may see lows fall into the 40s from Saturday night into Sunday morning.
Temperatures are expected to start to rise again early next week.
