Senior Bowl hires Drew Fabianich as new executive director

The Reese’s Senior Bowl has hired Drew Fabianich as its new executive director, game officials announced Wednesday.

Fabianich was general manager and director of scouting at West Virginia in 2023-24 and was general manager and director of scouting and development at Auburn in 2022. Prior to that, the Colorado native spent 18 years in the scouting department with the NFL’s Dallas Cowboys.

“I am honored to be the new executive director of the Senior Bowl,” Fabianich said. “The Senior Bowl has been part of my life for over 18 years. I will embrace this game and the City of Mobile with passion, perseverance, purpose and a desire to continue to grow the premier all-star game in the country. I am eager to bring my skills and experience to the table and make a positive impact. I want to thank the Mobile Arts & Sports Association Board of Directors, committee and staff for this opportunity to be part of this storied legacy.”

Fabianich replaces Jim Nagy, who left after seven years to become general manager at Oklahoma. Nagy oversaw the Senior Bowl’s transition from its long-time home at Ladd-Peebles Stadium to Hancock Whitney Stadium on the campus of the University of South Alabama in 2021, as well as the college football all-star game and NFL draft showcase’s move to include underclassmen in the game in 2023.

The last two Senior Bowls have sold out at 25,000-seat Hancock Whitney and continues to have live coverage on NFL Network. The long-time Mobile institution has faced a number of challenges in recent years, including the removal of full NFL coaching staffs and the East-West Shrine Game moving to the same week in early February, which increased competition for players.

However, the Senior Bowl had more than 100 players selected in the 2024 NFL draft, including 10 first-rounders. This year’s game featured a number of high-profile NFL prospects, including Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe, Texas A&M defensive lineman Shemar Turner, Ole Miss defensive lineman Walter Nolen, Marshall linebacker Mike Green, Oregon offensive lineman Josh Conerly, TCU wide receiver Jack Bech and Ole Miss quarterback Jaxson Dart.

The Senior Bowl has been played in Mobile for the last 74 years. The first game took place in Jacksonville, Fla., in 1951, but moved to the Port City the following year.

“The Mobile Arts & Sports Association is thrilled to welcome Drew Fabianich as the new Senior Bowl Executive Director,” said Scott Cooper, president of the Mobile Arts & Sports Association, which owns and operates the Senior Bowl. “His years in the NFL and college have given him unmatched experience in the football landscape, and, combined with his passion for evaluating talent and fostering valuable relationships, makes him the ideal candidate to lead this team. He will be an advocate for the City of Mobile and will represent who we are as a city and an organization.”

Fabianich will be formally introduced as Senior Bowl executive director in a press conference Thursday morning at the Battle House hotel in downtown Mobile.
