Senior Bowl 2025: 10 players who made big impressions this week

The first stage of the 2025 NFL draft process is complete, with the 76th Reese’s Senior Bowl in the books.

More than 100 of the top draft-eligible college football players in the country have spent the last week in Mobile, showing their stuff for NFL scouts and talent evaluators through three days of practice and one-on-one meetings with representatives of professional clubs. The annual all-star game included third-year juniors who have chosen to enter the NFL draft once again this week, giving the roster an overall talent and name-recognition boost.

So who made the biggest impressions during Senior Bowl 2025 week? With the caveat that it’s very difficult for a player to hurt his stock at the Senior Bowl, here are a few of the players who were most-discussed in Mobile (listed in alphabetical order):

1. Elijah Arroyo, TE, Miami

It was a pretty strong tight end group in Mobile this year, and Arroyo was probably the most-consistent of the bunch throughout the week in practice. LSU’s Mason Taylor was also quite good, though he didn’t stick around for the game.

2. Jack Bech, WR, TCU

Even before he stepped on the field, Bech’s story was well-known due to the tragic death of his older brother, Tiger, in the New Year’s Eve terror attack in New Orleans. But he had an outstanding week of practice, following that up by catching the winning touchdown on the game’s final play and earning MVP honors. Bech’s Senior Bowl week couldn’t have been more incredible if it was scripted.

3.Trevor Etienne, RB, Georgia

The running back group at this year’s Senior Bowl was also full of big names, and to their credit, most of them stuck around for the game. Etienne played an especially long season for the Bulldogs, but looked good during practice and hung around for the game when many others whose teams made deep College Football Playoff runs did not.

4. Mike Green, OLB, Marshall

Green had the week’s viral moment in practice by running over Oregon lineman Josh Conerly during one-on-one drills, and was nearly unblockable regardless of who was across the line. He showed that his nation-leading 17 sacks this season weren’t a fluke and that Group of 5 players can hang with anyone.

5. Tez Johnson, WR, Oregon

Johnson checked in at just 5-foot-9, 162 pounds at the Senior Bowl weigh-in, but proved to be one of the two best receivers in town this week (along with Bech) despite his lack of mass. The speedy former Pinson Valley and Troy standout left town before Saturday’s game, but showed plenty when battling defensive backs all week in practice.

6. Shemar James, ILB, Florida

A Mobile native, James’ Senior Bowl week would have been memorable even if he didn’t perform well in practice or the game, but he showed coverage skills during the former and run-stopping ability in the latter. He was also one of the fastest players on the field this week, regardless of position.

7. Riley Leonard, QB, Notre Dame

The other local product who took the field in the Senior Bowl, Leonard deserves a tremendous amount of credit for sticking it out all week after taking a pounding in the national championship game less than two weeks ago. There remain questions about the Fairhope native as a passer, but he checks all the boxes from a character, leadership and toughness standpoint.

8. Jalen Milroe, QB, Alabama

Milroe also entered Senior Bowl week with a lot of questions, and didn’t really answer many of them. He’s an outstanding runner and throws a beautiful deep ball, but was not sharp on the short or intermediate routes either in practice or on Saturday. But he stayed in there and took all the hits (literally and figuratively) and was by far the most-popular player with fans before, during and after the game.

9. Walter Nolen, DL, Ole Miss

It was an outstanding group of defensive linemen this year, and Nolen stood at the head of the class. He was a blue-chip recruit out of high school three years ago, was an All-American with the Rebels this past season and entered Senior Bowl week as a likely first-round NFL draft pick. He certainly did nothing to deter that idea during practices, though he left town before Saturday’s game.

10. Grey Zabel, OL, North Dakota State

The battles in the trenches during practice are the heart of Senior Bowl week, and Zabel showed that he might just be the latest Bison star to achieve NFL glory. He won the overall practice player of the week award, as voted by those who faced him in 1-on-1 and 11-on-11 drills.
