Selma police evidence technician found shot to death

A Selma Police Department investigator was found dead from a gunshot wound on a roadway early Wednesday.

Police Chief Kenta Fulford said officers responded about 1 a.m. to the 3400 block of Water Avenue on a report of a person shot.

When they arrived, they found Jamyron Hope unresponsive on the ground. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Fulford said Hope was an evidence technician for the department.

The State Bureau of Investigation is taking the lead on the investigation.

Trooper Sgt. Jeremy Burkett said the intersection of Water Street and U.S. 80 will be block for an extended period of time.

“Please keep Evidence Tech. Hope’s family and the Selma Police Department in your thoughts and prayers,’’ Fulford said.
