Fans disagreed with AL.com prep sports staff’s prediction for the AHSAA 2024 Class 7A volleyball champion.

We selected two-time defending champion McGill-Toolen, but readers voted Bayside Academy — No. 4 in AL.com analysis — as their pick for the title.

Bayside picked up 40 percent of the vote while McGill-Toolen had 29 percent and Hoover had 7 percent.

The Admirals are competing in Class 7A for the first time this season, but Bayside has a state-best 31 volleyball championships with at least one title in every class. Bayside had won 21 straight titles before falling in Class 6A semifinal action in 2023.

McGill-Toolen has a state-best 23 big-school titles, including the past two straight in Class 7A and reached the championship match each of the past three seasons.
