See which state teams ranked in national football preseason poll
Four state football teams are ranked in the preseason top 100 by High School Football America and another four in the top 300.
Three of top 100 teams are from Class 7A with one from Class 6A while the top 300 features six Class 7A teams and two from Class 6A.
Four-time defending Class 7A champion Thompson leads the HSFA Top 100, ranked No. 15 nationally after completing an 11-3 season in 2022.
Central-Phenix City is ranked No. 62 and Auburn is at No. 66.
Central fell to Thompson in both 2019 and 2021 title games and beat the Warriors for the 2018 championship while Auburn lost the championship to Thompson in 2020 and 2022.
Class 6A defending champion Saraland is ranked No. 83. The Spartans beat Mountain Brook for their first title in 2022 after falling in the championship in both 2018 and 2014.
Florida leads all states with 18 teams among the top 100 — 43 in the top 300 — while Texas has 16 teams ranked among the best 100. Other notable states with teams in the top 100 are California (17), Georgia (12), Ohio (8), Louisiana (6) and Tennessee (5).
Other state teams ranked among the HSFA Top 300 are No. 112 Class 7A Hewitt-Trussville, No. 114 Class 7A Hoover, No. 189 Class 6A Clay-Chalkville and No. 287 Class 7A Vestavia Hills.
