See Week 1 Huntsville Football Player of the Week

Jake Jones dominated the voting in the first Huntsville Football Player of the Week balloting, earning 7,184 of the 9,676 votes cast.

Jones, a junior quarterback, got 74 percent of the votes after running for 163 yards and four touchdowns and connecting on 4-of-5 passes for 76 yards and another TD in a 56-51 win at Fort Payne last week.

Madison Academy running back Ken Cherry finished second in the balloting after running for 221 yards and three touchdowns in a 42-6 win at Deshler.

West Morgan quarterback Braxton Peters completed 16-of-20 passes for 204 yards and four TDs in a 41-20 win at Randolph. He finished third in Week 1 voting.

Voting for Huntsville Football Player of the Week opens on Sundays during the season and runs through Wednesday. Nominees are determined from statistics submitted by coaches or official team statisticians before noon each Saturday.

In Week 1, more than 39,000 votes were cast across the three AL.com player of the week polls.
