See video of dust devil whipping up in Alabama park
The formation of a dust devil was caught on video and shared via social media from ABC 33/40 meteorologist James Spann.
Carrie Parker shared the video with Spann depicting a dust devil forming at Kentuck Park in Northport.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, dust devils are created by strong differences in surface heat and that of the air just above the ground. The whirlwinds normally form on dirt or asphalt and typically are around 10 to 300 feet in diameter with heights up to 1000 feet. They can whip up strong winds, however, sometimes reaching speeds of 60 mph or greater.
