The top-ranked Class 7A boys team in the state and the No. 2-ranked girls team are both in action today as AHSAA regional play begins at Jacksonville.

The Northeast Regional is the only one of the four regional sites that will host games today. Games in Hanceville, Birmingham and Montgomery begin Wednesday.

Still, opening day provides some intriguing 7A matchups. On the girls side, Sparkman takes on No. 8 Chelsea at noon. On the boys side, No. 1 Huntsville puts its 30-2 record on the line against Oak Mountain in the day’s final game at 1:30 p.m.

9 a.m., 7A girls semifinal, Hewitt-Trussville vs. Grissom

10:30 a.m., 7A boys semifinal, Chelsea vs. Grissom

Noon, 7A girls semifinal, Sparkman vs. Chelsea

1:30 p.m., 7A boys semifinal, Huntsville vs. Oak Mountain

No games being played in the Northwest, Central or South Regionals
