Many of the state’s top runners will represent their halves of the state in the AHSAA North-South All-Star week.

The AHSAA and AHSADCA revealed the boys and girls rosters for the North-South All-Star cross country competition on Tuesday, with multiple 2024 individual state champions selected to the rosters.

“Last summer’s North-South all-star competition was outstanding,” AHSADCA director J.T. Lawrence said, “And judging by the outstanding teams assembled by the coaches’ selection committee this year, we can expect exciting races this coming July.”

Rose Betts of Brewer, who has been selected for the North roster, claimed the Class 5A girls state championship in November with a 17:54.60 time. She’s joined on the team by Lawrence County star Katie Mae Coan, who finished second after clocking a 18:05.82.

The South team has a trio of Auburn runners in Abby Merner, Rylee Plexio and Natalie Schoonover, with Auburn the only team to have more than two players selected for the same team.

Northridge’s boys had two selected on the North team (Shawn Stephenson, Anglin Young), while UMS-Wright (J-Roe Hand, Peyton Holderer) and Horseshoe Bend (Davis Layfield, Loughton Spates) had two each on the South team.

Travis Barnett, who claimed the Class 3A state title in November after clocking a time of 16:18.68, was selected for the North team.
