See new designs for 9 Alabama license plates

The nine newly redesigned Alabama license plates are now available.

The plates were available starting Jan. 1, according to the Alabama Department of Motor Vehicles. The redesigned plates include:

  • Educator – Proceeds go to Alabama Penny Trust Fund
  • Retired Educator – Proceeds go to Alabama Penny Trust Fund
  • Fighting Cystic Fibrosis – Funds research, patient care and transitional care for patients at Children’s of Alabama and UAB.
  • Fraternal Order of Police – Benefitting Alabama State Lodge Fraternal Order of Police Inc.
  • Mending Kids Heart – Benefitting Children’s Hospital of Alabama)
  • University of Mississippi (Ole Miss) – Net proceeds go to the State of Alabama general fund.
  • Alabama Tennis Foundation – Net proceeds are distributed to the Alabama Tennis Foundation
  • Stop Domestic Violence – Net proceeds distributed to the District Attorney for the county where the plate is issued for the use and benefit of domestic violence prevention programs.
  • Firefighter – Net proceeds go to expanding and maintaining the Alabama Firefighter Memorial located in Tuscaloosa and for training expenses associated with the Firefighter Peer Support Program.

Specialty plates generally cost an extra $50.
