See inside an 1840s Alabama plantation on the market for $1.2 million

An 1840s vintage plantation in Southwest Alabama is now on the real estate market for the first time in 50 years.

The Wilson-Finley house, in Gainestown in Clarke County, currently has an asking price of $1.2 million.

The property is under contract and listed by Jon Kohler & Associates.

Built around 1846, the two-story Greek Revival home has five bedrooms and three bathrooms and is set on 223 acres of property. The home, at the end of a live oak-lined driveway, took five years to complete and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1976.

The main house has limestone foundations and locally-quarried front columns, with 4,320 square feet of space, 14-foot ceilings, wide plank heart pine floors, and antique furniture. The house was renovated in 1990, with an addition at the rear of the house adding the porch, with living space above it.

There is also a swimming pool, outhouse and garden.

The surrounding land is approximately 173 forested acres of managed pine plantation and mature hardwood, and about 50 acres of pasture. There is also a road network.

Included in the sale is the old Gainestown schoolhouse, built in 1919 and used until the 1950′s. It was converted into a guesthouse about two decades ago, adding sheetrock, electrical and plumbing improvements.

The property includes a hay barn, equipment shed, log cabin playhouse, and more.
