See brackets for high school basketball postseason play
High school basketball postseason play begins this week with AISA teams in action while most AHSAA teams don’t start until Monday.
AHSAA area tournaments are hosted by the top seed, determined during regular season play, with girls tournaments completed by Feb. 10 and boys by Feb. 11.
Area tournament winners and runner-ups from each of 16 classes in 6A-1A advance to sub-regional play on Feb. 13 for girls and Feb. 14 for boys. Area tournament winners host a predetermined area runner-up in sub-regional play.
The top two from each of eight Class 7A area tournaments advance straight to regional play.
Regional tournaments will be held at four sites: Northwest at Wallace-Hanceville, Northeast at Jacksonville State, Central at Bill Harris Arena in Birmingham and South at Garrett Coliseum in Montgomery. Regional tournaments will be held Feb. 16-23.
The regional winner in all seven classes at each site earns a spot in the state basketball championships at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center beginning on Feb. 27 and ending on March 4.
Postseason play in AISA begins Thursday with two areas in two regions in each of three classes (A, AA, AAA). Winners advance to the Montgomery Multiplex for Elite Eight action beginning Feb. 8 with the championships scheduled for Feb. 10.
