See AHSAA Volleyball Tournament Player of the Day from Thursday’s closing matches
With Alabama High School Athletic Association three day Volleyball Elite Eight state tournament now in the rearview mirror after seven champions were crowned at Birmingham’s Bill Harris Arena, we close out our volleyball polling with the Day 3 Volleyball State Tournament Player of the Day.
Faith Academy voters came out strong – as they usually do – with Rams setter Chloe Duggan running away with the balloting. The sophomore picked up 29,408 votes – 92 percent of the 31,804 total.
In Week 8, her teammate Parker Goff received 95 percent of 139,722 votes to earn State Volleyball Player of the Week. Her 132,500 votes were more than the previous seven weeks totals combined.
On Thursday, Duggan finished the Class 5A championship match with 24 assists and 10 digs. The Rams (35-16) finished as state runner-up to UMS-Wright.
Brinkli Wood of University Charter School of Livingston finished second in the poll with 7 percent of the vote. The senior outside hitter had 20 kills and 13 digs in the 1A championship match loss to Spring Garden. The Trailblazers finished 32-7.
UMS-Wright’s Ella Claire Sullivan finished third in the balloting. The junior defensive specialist had a team-hit 17 digs with 3 assists and 2 aces for the 5A champs. The Bulldogs finished 43-7 in winning the program’s first state volleyball championship.
