Second Alabama player transferring to Colorado, joining Deion Sanders

Cornerback Jahquez Robinson became the second Alabama player this offseason to transfer to Colorado when he committed Saturday to play for new Buffaloes coach Deion Sanders.

Robinson made the announcement on Instagram, a week after posting photos in a Colorado uniform during a visit to Boulder. Robinson posed with former Tide linebacker Demouy Kennedy, a Theodore native who transferred from Alabama to Colorado in February. He also re-joins new Colorado defensive coordinator Charles Kelly, formerly the Tide’s safeties coach.

The fourth-year cornerback appeared in only one game over his first two seasons with the Tide before participating in six games last season as a primary backup at cornerback. The Jacksonville, Florida native was a four-star prospect in the 2020 recruiting class.

Colorado adds Robinson after it lost 44 players to the portal since the start of the year and 27 this week alone.

Robinson entered the NCAA transfer portal last week and did not play in the Tide’s spring game last weekend. He is one of three players to enter the portal during the NCAA’s spring window, which opened April 15 and closes at the end of the day Sunday.

Tight end Elijah Brown and cornerback Trequon Fegans are the other two Alabama players to enter the portal this spring. Fegans has reported contact from schools including USC, Ohio State, Miami and Penn State, and told On3 Sports he will visit USC next week.

In total, Alabama has lost 17 scholarship players to the portal since the beginning of last season. It has added three players through the portal — Maryland tight end CJ Dippre, Georgia linebacker Trezmen Marshall and Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner. The Tide also hosted UAB safety Jaylen Key on a visit this week.

Alabama enters its summer break with only six scholarship cornerbacks: Kool-Aid McKinstry, Terrion Arnold, Earl Little, Antonio Kite, Jahlil Hurley and Dezz Ricks.
