SEC to add women’s rowing as championship sport in spring of 2025
The SEC will add women’s rowing as its 22nd championship sport — and 13th women’s sport — in the spring of 2025, it was announced Friday.
Four SEC schools currently sponsor the sport: Alabama, Tennessee, Oklahoma and Texas. Because there is no SEC rowing, the Crimson Tide and Lady Vols have participated in the Big 12 since 2015 after previously participating in Conference USA.
“The addition of Oklahoma and Texas provides the opportunity to support a new SEC championship experience for rowing student-athletes,” SEC commissioner Greg Sankey said. “We look forward to providing support to the growth of the sport of rowing in the Southeastern Conference.”
The first SEC rowing championship will take place in May 2025, at a site to be determined.
