SEC Media Days is moving west in 2024

The SEC Media Days roadshow will continue its westward expansion.

Ahead of the 2023 event beginning in Nashville, the league is set to announce next year’s version will be held in Dallas. It coincides with the SEC’s expansion as Texas and Oklahoma join the conference in 2024.

The news was originally reported by Brett McMurphy of the Action Network. SEC commissioner Greg Sankey made it official from the podium as he opened the action. It will be held in downtown Dallas from July 15-18.

SEC Media Days was traditionally a Birmingham-area event since beginning in 1985 at the Holiday Inn Medical Center. It eventually settled in Hoover in what’s now known as the Hyatt Regency Birmingham-Wynfrey Hotel.

The first move came in 2018 when the College Football Hall of Fame in Atlanta hosted media days. Nashville was originally scheduled to host it in 2020 before the COVID-19 pandemic rewrote the college football calendar.

After holding it in Hoover again in 2021, the SEC went back to Atlanta in 2022 before making its Nashville debut this week at the Grand Hyatt.

On a related matter, Sankey said the conference was in conversation with Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta to extend the deal for the Atlanta Falcons’ stadium hosting the SEC championship game. The current contract runs through the 2026 season.
