Arkansas defeated Kent State 28-6, Auburn defeated California 14-10, Florida defeated McNeese State 49-7, Georgia defeated Ball State 45-3, Kentucky defeated Eastern Kentucky 28-7, LSU defeated Grambling State 72-10, Mississippi State defeated Arizona 31-24, Missouri defeated Middle Tennessee 23-19, Ole Miss defeated Tulane 37-20, South Carolina defeated Furman 47-21 and Tennessee defeated Austin Peay 30-13. Alabama lost to Texas 34-24, Texas A&M lost to Miami (Fla.) 48-33 and Vanderbilt lost to Wake Forest 36-20. Here are 10 numbers about the SEC’s Week 2 games:

1 TD for LB Antonio Grier one snap into his Arkansas career. A transfer from South Florida, Grier got on the field for the first time with the Razorbacks on Saturday when the Kent State offense came out for its third possession. He picked off QB Michael Alaimo’s first-down pass and scored on a 25-yard return to give Arkansas a 7-3 lead with 1:12 left in the first quarter.

1 Of 13 third downs was converted into a first down by Ole Miss against Tulane on Saturday. But the Rebels went 3-for-3 on fourth down in their 37-20 victory over the Green Wave. Ole Miss had fourth-down conversions from its 45- and 36-yard lines in the first 16 minutes of the game but still fell behind 17-7. The final conversion came on a fourth-and-4 snap at the Tulane 21-yard line, and Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart connected with TE Michael Trigg with 1:25 to play for the final touchdown of the game.

3 Consecutive games with two TD receptions for Vanderbilt WR Will Sheppard after he had eight receptions for 87 yards and two TDs in the Commodores’ 36-20 loss to Wake Forest on Saturday. Sheppard leads the nation with six TD receptions. Last season, Sheppard also had two TD receptions in each of Vanderbilt’s first two games, recorded one TD reception against Wake Forest, then had two more TD receptions in a 38-28 victory over Northern Illinois in the Commodore’s fourth game. After that, he had two more TD receptions in Vanderbilt’s remaining eight games of the 2022 season. This season, Sheppard had six receptions for 68 yards and two TDs in a 35-28 victory over Hawaii on Aug. 28 and six receptions for 62 yards and two TDs in a 47-13 victory over Alabama A&M on Sept. 2.

10 Victories this century for Auburn in which the Tigers scored no more than 14 points after a 14-10 win over California on Saturday night gave the school its first West Coast victory in four tries. The only program in the nation with more victories scoring 14 or fewer points since 2000 is Georgia with 11. In the other games, Auburn defeated Alabama 9-0 in 2000, Penn State 13-9 in 2002, Arkansas 10-3 in 2003, LSU 10-9 in 2004, LSU 7-3 in 2006, Arkansas 9-7 in 2007, Mississippi State 3-2 and Tennessee 14-12 in 2008 and Texas A&M 13-10 in 2022.

25 Completions on 27 passes for South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler in a 47-21 victory over Furman on Saturday. Rattler completed his first 15 passes on his way to 345 passing yards and three TD passes. Rattler’s 92.6 completion rate is tied for the fourth-best in SEC history for a player with at least 20 completions in a game. The three performances ahead of Rattler on the conference list all involved the Gamecocks. Georgia QB Greyson Lambert completed 24-of-25 passes in a 52-20 victory over South Carolina on Sept. 19, 2015. Tennessee QB Tee Martin completed 23-of-24 passes in a 49-14 victory over South Carolina on Oct. 31, 1998. South Carolina QB Connor Shaw completed 20-of-21 passes in a 31-10 victory over Missouri on Sept. 22, 2012.

27 Consecutive 200-yard passing games for Mississippi State QB Will Rogers until Saturday. Rogers had more than 200 passing yards in every game in the 2021 and 2022 seasons. He didn’t throw fewer than 34 times in any of those contests, but he started the season by going 20-of-29 passing for 227 yards with two TDs and no interceptions in a 48-7 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Sept. 2, then completed 13-of-17 passes for 162 yards and three TDs in the Bulldogs’ 31-24 victory over Arizona on Saturday. Against Arizona, RB Jo’Quavious Marks gave MSU a 100-yard rusher in back-to-back games after the Bulldogs had gone 38 consecutive contests without one. Marks had 123 yards and one TD on 24 rushing attempts against Arizona after opening the 2023 season with 127 yards and two TDs on 19 carries against Southeastern Louisiana.

29 Consecutive regular-season games have been won by Georgia after the Bulldogs beat Ball State 45-3 on Saturday. Georgia is tied for the second-longest streak in SEC history. The Bulldogs haven’t lost in the regular season since a 44-28 setback against Florida on Nov. 7, 2020. The longest regular-season winning streak in SEC history lasted 33 games, which Tennessee achieved between a 13-7 loss to Vanderbilt on Nov. 13, 1937, and a 19-0 loss to Duke on Oct. 4, 1941. The only other regular-season winning streak in the SEC as long as Georgia’s current one was the 29-game streak achieved by Alabama between a 17-10 loss to Auburn on Nov. 24, 2007, and a 35-21 loss to South Carolina on Oct. 9, 2010.

34 Consecutive home-openers have been won by Florida after the Gators downed McNeese State 49-7 in the first 2023 game in Gainesville on Saturday. Florida’s most recent loss in its home-opener is a 24-19 defeat by Ole Miss on Sept. 9, 1989. The teams that Florida has beaten in the streak have been Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Charleston Southern (twice), The Citadel, Eastern Michigan (twice), Florida Atlantic (twice), Hawaii, Houston, Kentucky, Louisiana-Lafayette, Marshall, Massachusetts, McNeese State, Miami (Ohio), New Mexico State (twice), Oklahoma State, San Jose State (twice), South Carolina, Southern Miss (twice), Tennessee, Toledo, UAB, Utah, UT Martin, Western Kentucky, Western Michigan and Wyoming.

46 Years since LSU won by a wider margin than the Tigers did on Saturday, when they posted a 72-10 victory over Grambling State. In reaching 70 points in a regulation game for the first time since a 70-14 victory over Arkansas State on Oct. 12, 1991, LSU posted its most lopsided victory since a 77-0 rout of Rice on Sept. 24, 1977. LSU QB Jayden Daniels completed 18-of-24 passes for 269 yards with five TDs and no interceptions in the first half on Saturday. He joined Joe Burrow, Max Johnson and Zach Mettenberger as the LSU players with at least five TD passes in a game. Burrow accomplished the feat six times. Johnson and Mettenberger did so once apiece.

57 Consecutive non-conference regular-season games had been won by Alabama — the longest streak in the nation during the SEC era – until the Crimson Tide lost to Texas 34-24 on Saturday. The Longhorns overcame Alabama by becoming the first team to score 21 fourth-quarter points against the Tide since Clemson in its 35-31 victory in the CFP national championship game on Jan. 9, 2017. Alabama’s previous loss in a non-conference regular-season game came on Nov. 17, 2007, when Louisiana-Monroe scored a 21-14 upset. Saturday’s loss ended several other national-best streaks owned by Alabama. The Tide had won 35 consecutive September non-conference home games since a 19-16 setback against Northern Illinois on Sept. 20, 2003. Dating to the loss to ULM, Alabama had defeated 43 consecutive non-conference opponents in Bryant-Denny Stadium. The Tide had won 29 consecutive September games since a 43-37 loss to Ole Miss on Sept. 19, 2015. Alabama had won 21 consecutive games at home since a 46-41 loss to LSU on Nov. 9, 2019. And Alabama had scored at least 30 points in eight straight games since a 24-20 victory over Texas A&M on Oct. 8, 2022.
