SEC Football by the Numbers: Top 10 for Week 8

The eighth Saturday of the SEC’s 90th season features four conference contests, one non-conference game and five teams – Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia and Kentucky – with open dates. Here are 10 numbers, along with the schedule, TV times and betting lines, to get ready for the SEC’s eighth week of 2022:

0 Losses for Ole Miss against LSU when the Rebels are ranked in the AP Poll and the Tigers are not. Ranked Ole Miss teams have a 9-0-1 record against unranked LSU opponents. On Oct. 29, 1960, unranked LSU and No. 2 Ole Miss played to a 6-6 tie. The Rebels won the ranked/unranked meetings in 1941, 1953, 1954, 1955, 1957, 1963, 1990, 1999 and 2021. No. 7 Ole Miss visits unranked LSU on Saturday.

1 TD pass is needed by Mississippi State QB Will Rogers to stand alone as the school’s career leader. Dak Prescott set the MSU career record with 70 TD passes during the 2012 through 2015 seasons. Rogers enters Saturday’s game against Alabama with 70 career TD passes, but he has not thrown for a TD against the Crimson Tide. In two games against Alabama, Rogers has completed 59-of-92 passes for 447 yards with no TDs and five interceptions.

1 Team in the nation has two 600-yard rushers this season – Ole Miss, with RB Quinshon Judkins and RB Zach Evans. Twenty-six players in the nation have reached 600 rushing yards in 2022. Judkins has 720 yards and 10 TDs on 121 rushing attempts, and Evans has 605 yards and seven TDs on 100 rushing attempts.

3 Consecutive Vanderbilt games have included at least 50 points for the Commodores’ opponent. This is the first time in SEC history that a team has yielded at least 50 points in three consecutive games. Vanderbilt lost to No. 2 Alabama 55-3 on Sept. 24 and No. 9 Ole Miss 52-28 on Oct. 8 for the 12th instance of an SEC team giving up 50 or more points in consecutive games. Then the Commodores lost 55-0 to No. 1 Georgia on Oct. 15 – the 50th time that a major-college football program had allowed at least 50 points in three consecutive games. Since joining the SEC in 2012, Missouri, which plays Vanderbilt on Saturday, has reached 50 points in 17 games, including five conference contests. The Tigers opened the 2022 season by defeating Louisiana Tech 52-24.

9 Years since South Carolina had a four-game winning streak. The Gamecocks enter Saturday’s game against Texas A&M after defeating Charlotte 56-20 on Sept. 24, South Carolina State 50-10 on Oct. 1 and Kentucky 24-14 on Oct. 8 in their previous three games. South Carolina won the final six games of the 2013 season. Since then, the Gamecocks have won three in a row four times. South Carolina has an 0-8 record against Texas A&M.

9 Consecutive Tennessee games have featured at least 30 points for the Volunteers, tied for the longest streak in school history. Tennessee reached at least 30 points in nine consecutive games during the 1995 season, a streak ended by a 12-7 victory over Vanderbilt on Nov. 25, 1995. Tennessee’s streak is the 15th of at least nine games with 30 points in SEC history. The conference record is 34 in a row by Alabama across the 2019 through 2021 seasons.

121 Games have been played by Alabama since the Crimson Tide most recently lost two in a row, the nation’s longest streak without consecutive losses. Alabama fell to Auburn 34-28 and to Oklahoma 45-31 in the Sugar Bowl to end the 2013 season. Alabama has lost 11 games since the back-to-back losses, including last week’s 52-49 setback against Tennessee last week.

138 Points have been scored against Vanderbilt in each half this season. The Commodores have yielded 66 points in the first quarter and 72 points in the second quarter for their first-half total and 72 points in the third quarter and 66 points in the fourth quarter for their second-half total. Only three teams in SEC history have given up more points in their first seven games of a season than Vanderbilt’s 276 in 2022. In 1979, Vanderbilt’s opponents scored 325 points in the first seven games. In 2020, Ole Miss’ opponents scored 286 points in the first seven games. In 1990, Vanderbilt’s opponents scored 282 points in the first seven games.

308 Yards and three TDs on 14 receptions for LSU WR Kayshon Boutte in Ole Miss’ previous visit to Tiger Stadium. Boutte set the SEC single-game record for receiving yards in LSU’s 53-48 victory. In six games this season, Boutte has 23 receptions for 245 yards and one TD. Ole Miss plays in Baton Rouge again on Saturday.

350 Games for Nick Saban as a college head coach when Alabama takes the field to play Mississippi State on Saturday. Saban has an on-the-field college record of 280-68-1 with stops at Toledo, Michigan State and LSU before joining the Crimson Tide. His record as an SEC coach is 237-42, with a 137-29 mark in conference regular-season games. At Alabama, Saban has a 189-26 record, with a 109-17 mark in conference regular-season games.
