SEC Football by the Numbers: Top 10 for Week 13
The 13th week of the SEC’s 91st season features five conference contests and four non-conference games. Here are 10 numbers, along with the schedule, TV and betting lines, to get ready for Week 13:
1 Victory in 40 games for unranked Vanderbilt teams against ranked Tennessee teams, and one victory in 28 games for unranked Auburn teams against ranked Alabama teams since the AP Poll began in 1936. On Nov. 26, 2016, unranked Vanderbilt upended No. 24 Tennessee 45-34. On Nov. 23, 2002, unranked Auburn upended No. 9 Alabama 17-7. On Saturday, unranked Vanderbilt plays No. 25 Tennessee and unranked Auburn plays No. 8 Alabama.
1 Previous regular season has featured 10 victories for Ole Miss, a mark the Rebels would reach with a win against Mississippi State on Thursday night. Ole Miss won 10 regular-season games in 2021. The Rebels won bowls to reach 10 wins in 2015, 2003, 1971, 1962, 1960, 1959 and 1955.
10 Rushing yards are needed by Kentucky RB Ray Davis against Louisville on Saturday to become the first player to record 1,000-yard seasons for two SEC programs. In 2022, Davis ran for 1,042 yards and five TDs on 232 carries for Vanderbilt. This season, Davis has 990 yards and 12 TDs on 172 carries for Kentucky.
11 Consecutive victories for Georgia over Georgia Tech when the teams have squared off in Atlanta, where they will renew their rivalry on Saturday. The Bulldogs haven’t lost on the Yellow Jackets’ home field since Nov. 27, 1999, when Georgia Tech posted a 51-48 overtime victory.
13 Victories and eight losses for Alabama coach Nick Saban against Auburn – a winning percentage of .619. In his 17th season with the Crimson Tide after five years at LSU, Saban’s record in SEC regular-season games against all other teams is 134-22 – a winning percentage of .859. Alabama and Auburn square off on Saturday. First-year Auburn coach Hugh Freeze had a 2-3 record against Saban and Alabama while he was at Ole Miss.
28 Consecutive victories for Georgia, tied for the longest winning streak in SEC history. Georgia’s most recent loss was a 41-24 setback against Alabama in the SEC Championship Game on Dec. 4, 2021. The league record of 28 wins in a row was established by Alabama during the 1978, 1979 and 1980 seasons and equaled by the Crimson Tide during the 1991, 1992 and 1993 seasons. A week after a 24-14 loss to Southern Cal, Alabama’s first 28-game winning streak started with a 51-28 victory over Vanderbilt on Sept. 30, 1978. It ended with a 6-3 loss to Mississippi State on Nov. 1, 1980. A week after a 35-0 loss to Florida, Alabama’s second 28-game winning streak started with a 10-0 victory over Georgia on Sept. 21, 1991. It ended with a 17-17 tie against Tennessee on Oct. 16, 1993.
52 Receiving yards are needed by WR Ricky Pearsall to become the first Florida player with 1,000 in a season since 2002. Among SEC members, only Auburn, which hasn’t had one since 1999, has gone longer without a 1,000-yard receiver than Florida. The Gators have had 11 1,000-yard receiving seasons by 10 players. When Taylor Jacobs had 1,088 receiving yards in 2002, he made it eight straight seasons with at least one 1,000-yard receiver for Florida. But the Gators haven’t had one since. Pearsall enters Saturday’s game against Florida State with 948 yards and four TDs on 64 receptions in 2023.
58 Years since a South Carolina team with a losing record has beaten a Clemson team with a winning record. In 1965, 4-5 South Carolina defeated 5-4 Clemson 17-16. The Tigers have a 9-0-1 record in that situation since the 1965 game. On Saturday, 5-6 South Carolina plays 7-4 Clemson.
76 Years since Florida posted three consecutive losing records. The Gators had 6-7 records in 2021 and 2022. Florida has a 5-6 record as faces undefeated Florida State in its regular-season finale on Saturday. Florida went 4-5-1 in 1945, 0-9 in 1946 and 4-5-1 in 1947 in its most recent streak of three losing seasons. Since then, the Gators have had back-to-back losing seasons twice — in 1978 and 1979 and the past two seasons. In 1980, Florida went 8-4 after an 0-10-1 record in 1979.
409 Yards of total offense are needed by LSU QB Jayden Daniels against Texas A&M on Saturday to become the third SEC player to record 5,000 in a single season. LSU QB Joe Burrow set the league record with 6,039 yards of total offense in 2019. Texas A&M QB Johnny Manziel had 5,116 yards in 2012. Daniels leads the nation in total offense with an average of 417.4 yards per game. His 4,591 yards include 3,577 passing yards and 1,014 rushing yards.
