The SEC’s reign of terror over college football will continue in 2023, as two Southeastern Conference teams hold the shortest odds to win the College Football Playoff National Championship.

Additionally, four schools have win totals over 9.5, with Georgia’s 11.5 wins being the highest betting line in the nation. With so many powerhouse squads stuffed into a single conference, predicting SEC football betting futures can be difficult.

SEC Championship best bets: Alabama Crimson Tide (+300 or better)

Nick Saban admitted to becoming too pass-heavy with Bryce Young under center in 2022. This led the Tide to a 10-2 record, missing the SEC Championship and College Football Playoff.

Postseason success is the standard at Alabama, and Saban has undoubtedly been laser-focused on bouncing back in 2023. His comments regarding the overreliance on Young signals that Bama will return to a physical, run-first offense this season, led by RBs Jase McClellan and Roydell Williams.

This decision also makes sense considering the departure of Young, leaving Jalen Milroe, Tyler Buchner, and Ty Simpson to fight for the starting gig. None hold a candle to Young’s passing abilities, but relying on the RBs to carry the Crimson Tide’s offensive workload could be a formula for success in 2023.

Alabama ranks fourth in the AP Top 25 poll, the school’s worst ranking since 2009. The Tide won the National Championship that year, and history could repeat itself in 2023.

To get there, Alabama must successfully transition back to its old style of football. Physical, smash-mouth, run-the-damn-ball offensive playcalling paired with stellar defensive play.

SEC Championship best bets: LSU Tigers (+460 or better)

The hiring of Brian Kelly at LSU was polarizing, but year one under the former Notre Dame coach was a success. The SEC West champion Tigers went 9-3 before a 20-point clobbering at the hands of Georgia in the conference championship.

Considering the Tigers went 6-6 in 2021, the three-win leap in 2022 has fans exhilarated for this season to kickoff. Plus, LSU has a leg-up on its conference rivals with the shortest odds to win the SEC, Georgia included.

LSU, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Texas A&M have the best odds to win the Southeastern Conference Championship, but only the Tigers trot out the same passer from a season ago. Arizona State transfer Jayden Daniels rushed for 885 yards, threw for 17 touchdowns, and 2,913 yards in 2022, marking one of the most dominant campaigns from a dual-threat QB in LSU history.

Another strong year from Daniels is a requirement for LSU to snatch the SEC crown from Georgia. Plus, the 22-year-old benefits from the return of the Tigers’ leading receiver Malik Nabers who snagged 72 receptions for 1,017 yards and three touchdowns a season ago.

SEC Championship best bets: Tennessee Volunteers (+1500 or better)

Tennessee made tremendous progress in year two under Josh Heupel. Despite entering the season unranked in the AP poll, the Volunteers went 11-2 and climbed as high as second in the Top 25, the school’s best ranking since 2001.

The catalyst for UT’s success was its high-flying offense, which led the nation in points scored and yards per game. Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt fueled the historic season, but both have bounced for the NFL.

This leaves tremendous responsibility on Joe Milton’s shoulders to take a monumental leap in his sixth college season. At 6-foot-5, 242 pounds, Milton looks the part and has the physical attributes to get the job done, but has never been a full-time starter.

Tennessee will go as far as Milton takes them in 2023, and he’ll have some help to continue the success. The Volunteers return its top two RBs from last season, along with three of the top four pass catchers.

Hooker took an unprecedented leap thanks to Heupel’s tutelage, and this trend may repeat with Milton.
