Alabama and Georgia clinched SEC Championship berths with Week 11 victories, as the Crimson Tide and Bulldogs will meet in the conference title game for the second time in the last three seasons.

A Georgia loss to Ole Miss paired with a Tennessee victory over Missouri would have set up a Week 12 SEC Championship elimination game between the Dawgs and Volunteers, with the winner heading to Atlanta to face the Crimson Tide. Instead, Georgia thoroughly dominated the Rebels, and Tennessee was shellacked by Mizzou, resulting in no Week 12 drama.

SEC Championship odds, matchup preview: Alabama vs. Georgia (-4.5)

Alabama has had many peaks and valleys this season. The Tide suffered a 10-point defeat to Texas in Week 2 and followed up with a two-touchdown win vs. USF in Week 3.

Questions arose about Nick Saban’s future in Tuscaloosa, but those were quickly laid to rest when Alabama notched a 24-10 victory over Ole Miss in Week 3. That was a clear turning point, as the Crimson Tide are 9-1 on the year with double-digit victories against Ole Miss, Tennessee, LSU, and Kentucky.

In the preseason, doubts swirled regarding Jalen Milroe’s abilities as a passer. While he occasionally struggles with intermediate throws, Milroe flicks one of the most accurate deep balls in the nation, which has been crucial to Alabama’s success.

Milroe is also a major threat with his legs, rushing for a season-high 155 yards and four touchdowns in the Crimson Tide’s convincing triumph vs. LSU. Jalen’s 12 rushing scores rank second in the SEC.

Alabama’s explosive offense has taken some attention away from its defense, which gives up only 18 points per game.

Georgia has consistently trounced opponents all season, with minor hiccups against South Carolina, Auburn, and Missouri. The Bulldogs’ SEC Championship odds seemed murky when Brock Bowers suffered a serious ankle injury in Week 7, but Bowers returned last Saturday, catching three passes for 34 yards and a touchdown.

Georgia hits the road to face Tennessee and Georgia Tech to close out the regular season, giving Bowers two more games to get back to full speed before the SEC Championship.

Carson Beck hasn’t received nearly as much praise as he deserves for his stellar season. The first-year starter has the second-most passing yards and third-highest touchdown total in the SEC.

The Dawgs’ defense has been next level, allowing the sixth-fewest points per game in FBS. Georgia’s 181 average passing yards surrendered is tops in the SEC, setting up a highly entertaining matchup with Milroe and Alabama.
