SEC basketball coach set to be hired at Big Ten school, reports say
Buzz Williams is set to be hired as head basketball coach at Maryland, according to multiple reports.
Williams leaves Texas A&M after coaching the Aggies to three straight NCAA tournaments. A&M averaged exactly 20 wins in his six years in College Station, going 23-11 this season.
At Maryland, Williams will replace Kevin Willard, who took the Villanova job. The Terrapins went 27-9 this season and reached the NCAA tournament Sweet 16 for the first time in nine years.
Williams has also coached at New Orleans, Marquette and Virginia Tech, winning a total of 373 games and reaching the NCAA tournament 11 times in 18 years. His best tournament finish was an Elite Eight run at Marquette in 2013, when the Golden Eagles also won the Big East championship.
