Searched using Google? You may be eligible for settlement money
People who searched online using Google and clicked on those results between October 2006 and September 2013 – in other words, pretty much everyone – may be entitled to part of a $23 million settlement.
The settlement comes as part of a class action lawsuit claiming Google improperly shared search queries with third-party websites and companies during the 2006-2013 timeframe. Google denies any wrongdoing but said it agreed to the settlement to “avoid the costs and risks of a trial.”
The amount each claimant will receive will be based on how many file. Based on current estimates, people with approved claims are expected to receive around $7.70 per person.
Settlement class members have a July 31 deadline to decide to participate. The final hearing is set for Oct. 12 and payments will likely follow.
