Search underway for people possibly injured when storm hit Calera mobile home park
Searches are underway for people possibly injured when storms blew through Calera as severe weather swept Alabama Saturday night.
Authorities said as of 9 p.m. no injuries had been reported or confirmed.
Hubbard Harvey, director the Shelby County Emergency Management Agency, said teams have been dispatched to multiple areas where damage has been reported but said it is too early to tell the magnitude.
According to the National Weather Service, a potential tornado caused extensive damage to a mobile home park in Calera.
Weather forecasters at the Calera NWS office were forced to briefly shelter in their office due to the storm. The Atlanta office of the National Weather Service pitched in to provide central Alabama forecasts during that time.
There are also reports of damage near the Intersection of Interstate 65 and U.S. 31, also in Calera.
The weather service also reported storm damage at the Calera Walmart but details were not available.
Calera Police Chief David Hyche said officers were searching for anyone with injuries but that no injuries were confirmed.

“We believe that some of the citizens from the trailer park were at the intermediate school shelter,” Hyche said.
Hyche said a search is also underway at Rolling Hills Campground on County Road 304.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is assisting.
Shelby County sheriff’s Maj. Clay Hammac said their office had not confirmed injuries.
Deputies are assisting police with surveys of infrastructure and roadways, Hammac said.
There are a few reports of blocked roads and debris. The power is also out in multiple areas in Calera, Hammac said.
Several west Alabama counties were hit by confirmed tornadoes, downing trees and power lines and causing possible injuries.
This is a developing story and will be updated as more is known.
