Search for Harlow Darby Freeman continues: ‘Bring my baby to me,’ mother begs

It’s been 12 hours since 9-month-old Harlow Darby Freeman was kidnapped from outside a Walker County home, and there is still no sign of the missing child.

Just before 7 p.m. Monday, Parrish police were called to 311 Crest Avenue, where Harlow’s father reported the girl was in her car seat in the back seat of his SUV when he ran into a friend’s house.

A minute later, family said, the SUV was stolen with Harlow still inside.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency issued an Amber Alert at 9:40 p.m.

Harlow’s mother, Bethany Smith, posted on Facebook that her daughter was in her car seat in the back of an SUV when it was stolen.

That vehicle is a white 2009 Lexus RX350 with tag number 3880AR8. The vehicle has damage on the rear passenger side and appears to be taped with clear tape.

“I’m begging you to please bring my baby to me,’’ Smith wrote. “You can drop the baby off wherever you want, just call me or message me and let me know where she is. No questions asked, I swear.”

The family is offering a $5,000 reward, said Harlow’s aunt, Melinda Hutchison.

At a Tuesday morning press conference, Parrish Police Chief Danny Woodard said they are using all resources – local, state and federal – in the search for Harlow.

“The main priority at this time is to locate the child,’’ Woodard said.

“I really appreciate the support and the prayers from the community of Parrish,’’ he said.

“I just want to reiterate what the chief said and thank the community for every mile they put in throughout the night looking for Harlow,’’ said Parrish Mayor Jared “Bubba” Cagle. “Most of all, we urge anyone with information to bring Harlow home to please come forth, please do your diligence and make this call.”

Asked if they believe Harlow could still be in the area, Woodard said, “Anything’s possible at this time.”

Cagle said no community search effort has yet been formally organized but encouraged everyone to be on the lookout.

“Just keep looking on your own, looking in these hidden spots, these dark spots, and making sure Harlow isn’t right under our nose,’’ Cagle said.

Harlow has brown hair, blue eyes and was last seen wearing a tie dye onesie and pink shorts.
