‘Scream VI’ trailer: Courteney Cox comes out guns blazing in horror sequel
Ghostface will leave Woodsboro for New York City in “Scream VI,” the latest chapter in the popular horror franchise, which brings back Alabama native Courteney Cox.
This time, Cox isn’t messing around either. When this new killer calls her to play the same game wherein it all started with the first “Scream” and Drew Barrymore, Cox isn’t falling for any genre tropes.

“There’s never been one like me, Gale,” this Ghostface says. “I’m something different.”
She brandishes a pistol and says, “That’s why I’m gonna shoot you in the f——g head!” Cue the obligatory jump scare.
The new film also stars Melissa Barrera, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Mason Gooding, Jenna Ortega, Hayden Panettiere, Dermot Mulroney, Henry Czerny, Samara Weaving and Tony Revolori. Neve Campbell, who played the franchise’s protagonist Sidney Prescott, will not reprise her role.
Cox also appeared in 2022′s “Scream,” the fifth installment of the series that grossed $140 million against a $24 million budget.
Critics gave it mostly high marks, as it earned a 76% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Born and raised in Birmingham, Cox became a scream queen during her peak “Friends” run in the mid-1990s, starring as cutthroat TV reporter Gale Weathers in Wes Craven’s meta-slasher flick that spawned four sequels. Cox’s popularity on the NBC sitcom gave this movie a needed boost when it hit theaters and helped change the genre forever with its horror movie references nestled into the genuine terror Craven unleashed. She proved a worthy foil to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott and shared real chemistry with David Arquette’s Deputy Dewey. She’s since appeared in each sequel, including the fifth entry bookending the series, aptly titled “Scream.”
“Scream VI” hits theaters March 10, 2023. Watch the trailer above. (Warning: It’s red-band, so watch out for naughty language.)
