This is an opinion column.

Much has been written about the changing football landscape. We could be witnessing the changing of college football’s pecking order.

Don’t confuse this with trying to predict the end of the Alabama dynasty. Through my eyes, that was a slugfest between two teams that at the end of the season will be among the top 10 in the country. Besides, with my apologies to the late Jim Croce, you don’t tug on Superman’s cape, cut Dale Earnhardt Sr. off in traffic or count out Nick Saban.

But back to my original point – and I I know its way early in the season to be saying this – but, I’ll do it anyway: I just don’t think the SEC is going to be very good this year.

Here’s some thoughts to support my case:

• A top-10 Tennessee team only scores 30 against a winless Austin Peay team? The Vols only had 13 points at halftime. This is the same Austin Peay team that had 49 points hung on it a week ago by Southern Illinois of all people.
• Missouri only beats Middle Tennessee State 23-19? Eliah Drinkwitz is starting year four with the Tigers and has yet to have a winning season. Barry Odum at least had two winning seasons.
• Shouldn’t Arkansas have beaten Kent State worse than 28-6? Sure, holding the Golden Flashes without a touchdown was impressive, but the offense should be better than this. KJ Jefferson, the only quarterback the Razorbacks used, only threw for 136 yards and no Razorback rushed for more than 100 yards (they rushed for 172 yards as a team). What makes this worse is Central Florida hung 56 on Kent State in the opener.
• Kentucky, baby. What are we doing with this 28-17 foolishness against Eastern Kentucky? Please don’t give me any of that in-state rival nonsense either. Take care of business.
• Miami drilled Texas A&M 48-33. While ugly, and it could speed up the paperwork on Jimbo Fisher’s dismissal, I do think it’ll look a lot less ugly at the end of the season. Miami has the potential to finish the season inside the Top 15.
• Mississippi State had to use double overtime to beat an Arizona team that hasn’t won more than seven games in a season since 2017′s Rich Rodriguez (not at Jacksonville State) team. I’ll let that one slide. The Bulldogs are going through some stuff.
• Florida won big, but it was supposed to. That said, it doesn’t make me feel any better about the Gators.
