Saturday NFL roundup: Former Tide TE scores for 49ers
Rookies Cameron Latu and DeWayne McBride scored their first pro touchdowns in the fourth quarter of NFL preseason games on Saturday night.
A third-round draft choice from Alabama, Latu caught a 22-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Trey Lance with 2:34 left to play in the San Francisco 49ers’ 21-20 victory over the Denver Broncos.
San Francisco went for 2 after Latu’s touchdown, but the 49ers’ pass failed, leaving the Broncos with a two-point lead.
But Denver couldn’t run out the clock, and after regaining possession on its 22-yard line with 2:01 to play, San Francisco won the game on rookie kicker Jake Moody’s 32-yard field goal on the final snap of the game.
A seventh-round draft choice from UAB, McBride capped a 12-play, 83-yard drive by scoring on a 1-yard plunge with 5:50 left in the Minnesota Vikings’ 24-16 loss to the Tennessee Titans.
In other NFL preseason games on Saturday night:
· Jacksonville had more rushing yards than the Detroit Lions had total yards in the Jaguars’ 25-7 victory. The Detroit offense totaled 131 yards while Jacksonville ran for 145, with Tank Bigsby, a rookie running back from Auburn, picking up 70 on 13 carries.
· Miami quarterback Tua Tagovailoa played for the first time since Dec. 25 and the Dolphins ran for 205 yards in a 28-3 victory over the Houston Texans. Running back Salvon Ahmed had 99 yards on 12 carries for Miami.
· The Pittsburgh Steelers had a two-touchdown lead 4:18 into the first quarter on their way to a 27-15 victory over the Buffalo Bills.
· The Indianapolis Colts scored 11 points in the final five minutes to defeat the Chicago Bears 24-17.
· Tampa Bay quarterback Kyle Trask threw for 218 yards and one touchdown in the Buccaneers’ 13-6 victory over the New York Jets.
· New England led the Green Bay Packers 21-17 when their game was called with 10:29 left to play after Patriots cornerback Isaiah Bolden left the field on a stretcher for transport to a hospital. Later, New England announced that Bolden had feeling in all of his extremities but would remain hospitalized for tests and observation.
· Three Kansas City quarterbacks threw for at least 105 yards and a fourth – Samford alumnus Chris Oladokun – directed a 91-yard scoring drive in his only series as the Chiefs defeated the Arizona Cardinals 38-10.
· After Las Vegas’ No. 1 QB Jimmy Garoppolo went 4-for-4 on an opening touchdown drive, Aidan O’Connell finished off the Raiders’ 34-17 victory over the Los Angeles Rams by throwing for 163 yards and two touchdowns. In between, Brian Hoyer put up 144 passing yards for Las Vegas.

· Jaguars outside linebacker Josh Allen (Abbeville) did not play.
· Tank Bigsby (Auburn) started at running back for the Jaguars. Bigsby ran for 70 yards on 13 carries and caught a pass that lost 2 yards.
· Lions defensive back Brian Branch (Alabama) did not play.
· Jaguars offensive lineman Chandler Brewer (Florence) left the game in the second half with a shoulder injury.
· Isaiah Buggs (Alabama) started at defensive tackle for the Lions. Buggs made one tackle.
· Jaguars outside linebacker DJ Coleman (Jacksonville State) made three tackles.
· Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs (Alabama) did not play.

· Jaguars long snapper Carson Tinker (Alabama) handled the snaps for four punts, two field goals and two extra-point attempts.

· Darryl Williams (Bessemer City) started at center for the Jaguars.
· Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams (Alabama) did not play. Williams sustained a hamstring injury at practice on Wednesday.

· Nico Collins (Clay-Chalkville) started at wide receiver for the Texans. Collins had two receptions for 21 yards.
· Dolphins guard Lester Cotton (Central-Tuscaloosa, Alabama) did not play.
· Texans defensive tacke Byron Cowart (Auburn) made one tackle.
