Samford celebrates largest enrollment in school history

Samford University now has the largest class of first-year students and total enrollment of students in the school’s history.

This fall, 1,081 first year students enrolled at Samford, which is an increase from last year’s record number of 972. The total number of undergraduate students is 3,832 and the total enrollment is with 5,791, according to a statement from the private university.

“This is a testament to the hard work of our entire campus and the strong desire our students have for a Samford education,” said Jason Black, Samford’s vice president for enrollment management.

Samford said it has seen 15 years of consecutive enrollment records at a time when many universities across the nation are experiencing enrollment declines. According to the Brookings Institution, from 2010 to 2021, undergraduate enrollment dropped by 15%.

The bump comes amid a banner year for multiple Alabama colleges.

The University of Alabama stated last month it expected to reach record enrollment this fall as it did in 2022.

The University of North Alabama has a record enrollment of more than 10,000 students.

While Auburn University has not yet released enrollment numbers, the university received a record amount of applications for the fall term.

Colleges typically release official enrollment numbers later in the fall.
